Sharing Files between Windows and Linux

You can share your files between Linux and Windows when you are using Windows on campus. If you are a Windows user, this might be a very convenient way to manage your files on the server.

Please contanct Atsuko Crum (Phone: X3737, Office: HT 310) when you want to do this for the first time. Your account needs to be set up for Samba server. After your account is ready, do the following steps.

On your Windows:

  1. Click "My Network Places" on Windows Explore.

  2. Click "Entire Network" and then "Math_cs". You will be able to see available servers.

  3. Click on the server you have your account on. Windows will prompt you for your user name and password.

  4. Type your user name in "Connect As:" field and your password in "Password:" field. After successful login, Windows Explore will show you your home directory on Linux server.
