ht319

The computers in HT 319 and the server pluto.hood.edu

The computers in HT319 share your home directory with the server pluto.hood.edu. So it appears the same when you log on a lab computer and when you log on the server pluto. But the ht319 lab computers are independent machines and some programs do not work the same way as on the server. For example, When you start a mail program on the server, you can use the default setting that checks a local computers mailbox. But if you want to use a mail program on the lab machines, you need to set it up to check the server's mailbox not a local machine's one. The lab machines are not able to receive mail from other hosts. Also, when you connect MySQL server running on pluto from the lab computers, you need to specify the server's host name (the default is local host).
